Our Academics

Our curriculum emphasizes the development of social, physical and cognitive skills through interactive, hands-on experiences. Early Childhood teaching is research based and always age-appropriate. Particular attention is given to the development of literacy skills. In Junior Kindergarten many students are already familiar with upper and lower case letters and display pre-reading skills. The senior Kindergarten language art includes journal writing and basic instruction on parts of speech and punctuation.  Students learn to write their original thoughts phonetically while learning accurate spelling of selected words in class. At all Early Childhood grade levels, children are exposed to outstanding children's literature and authors and begin learning reading strategies.

Particular attention is given to the development of literacy skills. In Kindergarten 3 many students are already familiar with upper and lower case letters and display pre-reading skills. The Kindergarten K and 5 language art includes journal writing and basic instruction on parts of speech and punctuation.  Students learn to write their original thoughts phonetically while learning accurate spelling of selected words in class. At all E grade levels, children are exposed to outstanding children's literature and authors and begin learning reading strategies by Kindergarten 5.

The upper school develops their literacy skills by focusing and using the 6 reading strategies to aid in the development of their higher order skills.

Students are encouraged to use their imagination and creativity to help them to see outside of the box. Props are used to help students visualize and use their imagination to develop their storyline. Students from grade two are taught story mapping to help them to structually develop their stories.

Mathematics is also a core teaching element, and is emphasized with hands-on examples and use of manipulative.

In the early grades, students learn mathematics fun but with an objective. ?this involves the use of many manipulative to encourage exploration, curiosity, solving problems and investigation.

Children learn from the concrete to the semi-abstract onto the abstract. Mathematics is integrated in the other subject areas and children are encouraged to use their environment to help them solve mathematical problems.
